“Academic possibilities of tablet devices such as an iPad”

On the 28th October 2011, Ria Groenewald and Maritz Visser from the Digitisation office attended a workshop at the University of Pretoria Conference hall. The aim of the workshop was to discuss the academic application of tablets and to identify possible difficulties in the implementation thereof.

In attendance were representatives from the various faculties in UP. Ria and Maritz were trying to get the attendees to understand the obstacles presented by firewalls and how they hinder users when trying to gain access to resources through the tablets.

Maritz demonstrated some applications which can be useful to lecturers and how they can use those applications. The attendees were pleased with Maritz and Ria’s presentations and will hopefully use what they learned.

There might be a follow-up workshop same time next year, hopefully by then majority of the staff will be in possession of Tablets to foster a great debate on their use in the academic environment.
